Set up PlentyLabs for Canva
The PlentyLabs app connects Canva to your PlentyLabs workspace. Use it to add your PlentyLabs images and videos to a Canva design, and to publish finished designs back to PlentyLabs.
1. What the app does
- Browse your library. See the images, videos and frames in your PlentyLabs workspace. Filter by board, or search by name or prompt.
- Add assets to a design. Click an asset to add it to the page, or drag it to the place you want.
- Publish to PlentyLabs. Send a finished Canva design to your PlentyLabs library. Each page becomes its own asset. You can also put it on a board.
A PlentyLabs frame arrives in Canva as one flat picture. Its layers stay in PlentyLabs and cannot be edited in Canva yet.
2. What you need
- A PlentyLabs account that is a member of at least one workspace. You can sign up here.
- A Canva account.
3. Open the app
- Open a design in Canva.
- In the side panel of the editor, click Apps.
- Search for PlentyLabs and open it.
After the first time, you find PlentyLabs with your other apps in the side panel.
4. Connect your PlentyLabs account
The app uses Canva's own connection flow. You sign in to PlentyLabs in a window that Canva opens. Canva stores the connection and keeps it up to date. The app itself does not store your password or your sign-in.
- In the app panel, click Connect PlentyLabs.
- In the window that opens, sign in to PlentyLabs and allow the connection.
- The window closes. The panel shows Connected as with your name or email, and your assets load.
If you close the window before you finish, nothing changes. Click Connect PlentyLabs when you are ready.
The connection can read the assets and boards in the workspaces you belong to, and it can add assets. It cannot open your PlentyLabs account settings, your password, billing, or admin tools.
5. Use the app
Add PlentyLabs assets to a design
- Pick a Workspace. To see only one board, pick it under Board. Pick All boards to see everything again.
- Under Show, choose Images, Videos or Frames. To find an asset, type its name or its prompt in Search.
- Click an asset to add it to the page. Or drag it onto the page.
Publish a design to PlentyLabs
- Finish your design. It needs at least one element on the page.
- Click Share, then See all. Search for PlentyLabs and choose it.
- Pick a Workspace and a Board. Or keep Library only to add the design to your library without a board.
- Check the preview, then publish.
The whole design is sent, every page, not only the part you selected. One publish can send up to 20 pages. Each page can be up to 48 MB.
6. Disconnect
You can disconnect your PlentyLabs account from inside the app. Open the PlentyLabs app in any Canva design. The top of the panel shows the account that is connected. Click Disconnect next to it. The panel goes back to Connect PlentyLabs, and you can connect again with the same account or a different one. When you publish a design, the same account is shown under Publishing as, and its Sign out link does the same thing.
You can also remove the app's access from PlentyLabs. Sign in to PlentyLabs and open Settings, then Your account. Under Connected apps, click Revoke next to the Canva app. The app can no longer renew its access, and loses it completely within an hour.
To remove the app completely, remove it from your Canva account in the same way as any other Canva app. To use it again later, open it and click Connect PlentyLabs.
7. Troubleshooting
“Your PlentyLabs connection expired”
Your connection ended, for example because it was revoked. Click Connect PlentyLabs and sign in again. If this happened while you published a design, connect again in the PlentyLabs panel, then publish again.
“Could not reach PlentyLabs”
Check your internet connection and try again. If it keeps happening, email us the full message.
“This account has no PlentyLabs workspaces”
Your PlentyLabs account is not a member of a workspace. Create a workspace in PlentyLabs, or ask a workspace owner to invite you.
An image or video has no downloadable file yet
PlentyLabs is still making it. Wait a moment and try again.
A frame cannot be placed
If the frame is still rendering, wait a moment and try again. A frame that renders to a video has no flat picture, so it cannot be placed yet.
Canva refused a video
Canva has its own size limit for uploaded videos. Try a shorter or smaller video.
“A page of this design is over the 48 MB”
One page is too large to send. Try a smaller design, fewer pages, or a shorter video.
“Publishing stopped part way through”
Some pages are already in your PlentyLabs library. Check the library before you publish again, or those pages are added twice.
A board is not in the list
You can only publish to a board that has a canvas and that you can edit. Boards you can only view are not listed. You can still publish to Library only.
My published design has a watermark
If the design uses Canva premium content that your Canva plan does not include, Canva adds a watermark to the export. PlentyLabs stores the file as Canva sends it.
